Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions does it take to improve?
Research says that if the counselling is working, you should experience some improvement, even after only a few sessions. Many of my clients report they start to feel better even after only one or two sessions. The important thing is taking the first step in booking a session and working together to resolve your issues or relationship problems so that you can start to feel better and more optimistic about yourself, your relationships and your life.
Are online therapy sessions effective?
Research says that online therapy sessions are just as effective as face to face therapy.
Is what we talk about on video/Zoom and/or face-to-face confidential?
Yes. Just as face-to-face counselling is confidential so are video consultations. Zoom is a safe and secure platform that uses encryption to maintain confidentiality. I am bound by my code of ethics to keep everything we speak about completely confidential. The only time I would break our confidentiality is if I thought you were in danger or harming yourself or someone else. In this case, I would usually speak to you before discussing your situation with others. I also break confidentiality if my notes are subpoenaed.
Can you save my relationship?
I can’t promise I can save your relationship, however I can help you start to understand what’s working and isn’t working, so you can then make the choice whether to continue working on your relationship or not. I have worked with many couples who have been on the brink of divorce or separation and were able to turn things around and reconnect and rebuild the love they once had.
Does my private health insurance cover the session fees?
Some private health insurance companies cover the fee associated with counselling. However, not all companies do. It also depends on the level of cover that you have.
What training and qualifications do you have?
I have trained extensively in counselling and psychotherapy and have worked in the health field for over 30 years. I have a Bachelor of Counselling degree, majoring in grief and loss; a Diploma in Individual, Couple and Family Therapy and a Post Graduate Diploma in Emotionally Focused Therapy.
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?
When you book your counselling appointment I reserve a time specifically for you and don’t offer it to anyone else. For this reason, I require 24 hours notice for the cancellation or rescheduling of any appointment. If you give less than 24 hours notice, you will be charged for the whole session fee.
What are your fees?
My fees for individual sessions are $160 for a 60-minute session or for couples sessions my fee is $180 per 60-minute session. I offer a discount of $15 off every session if you pre-pay and pre-book 6 sessions in advance.
My partner won’t come in for couples therapy. Should I still come on my own?
Yes. Even if your partner won’t come to couples counselling or marriage therapy, you can still benefit from individual sessions. In fact, your relationship can still improve even when you only attend by yourself. Read this article about attending sessions by yourself.
